Petitioning your government is one of your fundamental rights as an American. Furthermore it is an extremely effective way to influence the decisions elected leaders make on our behalf.
When elected leaders hear directly from constituents, they take notice. Elected leaders want to please their constituents. You can expect them to listen respectfully to your position, even when they disagree.
Remember, our elected leaders are regular citizens. Often, elected leasers do not have predetermined positions or expertise on many of the issues that require their consideration and vote.
This means they will decide on these issues based on the number of constituents they hear from supporting each position and the facts that are offered in support of those positions.
Review the Climate Change and Sustainability Fact Sheet before contacting your elected leaders. Use these facts to be a more effective advocate.
